If you already know a thing or two about pinhole photography or large format film photography in general this is the camera for you. With the increased film size the images this camera creates are of better “quality”* and usually look sharper. The ONDU 4X5” Large Format camera is compatible with the Polaroid 545 back which accepts the NEW-55 FILM as well as the standard 4X5” film holders available from the web and retail shops worldwide.
-
This is the RISE version that has 3 piholes, one in the centre and the other 2 located on thirds of the pinhole plane. With 3 tripod mounts it is possible to expose in all directions even with the rise pinholes. The RISE option gives you the possibility of raising or lowering the horizon to lower or upper third.
-
The camera has a fixed focal length of 58mm and a pretty wide angle of view of 106° which means that it will take some getting used to while framing your first shots. To make this easier we have engraved vertical and horizontal field of view engravingand added three levelling bulbs for vertical and horizontal orientations, the same goes for tripod mounts, one vertical two horizontal to make use of the rise feature, a first in the ONDU RISE series.
The 4x5” standard film back is secured to the camera via magnets and wooden film retaining clips while the much heavier Polaroid 545 back requires screwing knobs to hold it in place during exposures. All large formats are hand painted inside with a black matte acrylic paint and sealed with black flocking material to prevent any light leaks from entering the camera.
